Pay the keyboard taxīy this point in the Surface Pro game, you'd be a fool to expect this tablet to come with a keyboard in the box. If you're schlepping on back home for the holidays with this tablet in tow then you should also be able to get around six or seven hours of pure Netflix binging too, which isn’t too shabby at all. Thankfully, Microsoft seems to have remedied this fundamental with its latest effort comfortably lasting us a full day of work without needing a top-up. Given the rather miserly battery life of its predecessor, that's not necessarily where our worries surrounding this device lay. Especially since it'll remember your arrangement as soon as you re-dock.Īs a desktop proposition, there's a lot to love about the Pro 8. While this might not sound like much of a gamechanger, it's ludicrously convenient for those who do connect their Surface Pro to an ultra-wide monitor. With Windows 11 out of the box, there are some swanky tricks on offer too, like the incredibly useful new snap layout abilities that let you more easily arrange multiple apps on the screen. Its rounded edges and smaller bezels make for a device you’d be proud to use in even the trendiest of neon-sign laden co-working spaces.

While the Surface Pro has traditionally been one of Microsoft's more utilitarian products to behold, its welcome redesign does a lot bring things more in line with Apple’s shapely iPad Pro. So much so that it's launching at £999 - a whole £200 more than its predecessor at launch - meaning all those upgrades come at a premium. With a slicker display, sleeker design and more power than ever, this is an undeniably capable machine. It arrives with a major facelift, upgrades inside and out, and Microsoft's shiny new Windows 11 operating system straight out of the box.
Credit where it's due, the Pro 8 isn't resting on its former laurels.
